Code-Switching???
Hello again! This blog post is about a video I watched on code-switching! Many people living in the Valley are bilingual and can switch back and forth from English to Spanish in one sentence; this is called code-switching! Growing up, my best friend moved here to Pharr from Germany. It took her a while to learn English, but once she did, she could code-switch effortlessly between the two languages (even if I couldn’t understand what she was saying in German). Usually, the Native language is the dominant language in code-switching. Being Hispanic means that my Grandma and Mom would use Intersentential code-switching between Spanish and English when we’d be on vacation in Tennessee or California when they didn’t want anyone to know what they were saying. Below are examples of three different types of code-switching.
